From Startup to OEM Partner: Lectron’s EV Charging Journey
Christopher Maiwald, Founder and CEO of Lectron, launched the company in 2017 with just $15,000 in starting capital. Lectron has grown into one of the fastest-growing EV charging brands in North America. Today, more than 18% of U.S. EV drivers own a Lectron product, making the brand a trusted name in the EV charging market.

Maiwald has overseen Lectron’s expansion from aftermarket charging accessories to official supplier status for global automakers including General Motors and Mercedes-Benz. With a strategy centered on addressing real-world pain points for EV drivers, from compatibility challenges to charging convenience.
A key milestone under Christopher Maiwald’s leadership was the launch of the Vortex Plug, the first widely available NACS to CCS adapter. The product secured first-mover status during Tesla’s Supercharger network rollout and led to OEM partnerships. Lectron later followed with the Vortex Plus, the first UL 2252-certified adapter of its kind, further cementing its role as an industry leader.
From a $15k startup to a company shipping hundreds of thousands NACS adapters to automakers, Lectron’s growth reflects Maiwald’s focus on making EV charging universal, affordable, and reliable.
