With only two automakers still missing from the open-source North American Charging Standard adoption roster of Tesla, NACS plugs will be in high demand. Lectron just outed dirt cheap Tesla chargers available at retailers like Best Buy.

With Toyota and BMW recently joining Tesla's North American Charging Standard charging party, the only holdouts among major automakers remain VW and Stellantis, but both have hinted that they are exploring NACS adoption, too. Given that most EVs by major automakers will come with NACS ports in 2025, there will very soon be a dire need for such chargers and connectors.

Enter the ever-entrepreneurial Lectron that not only announced two new Level 1 and Level 2 Tesla chargers, but has also made them available at Amazon, as well as at Best Buy and even Home Depot retail locations.

What's arguably even more important is that Lectron made the Level 1 unit the cheapest Tesla charger on Amazon, and ditto for the 40A 240V Level 2 charger. Coming in at just US$189.99, the Level 1 plug will deliver sustained 15A output from any outlet in the US.

Needless to say, the preference should go to the much faster 40A Level 2 charger for 240V outlets that comes at the incredible $279.99 price, a tag that would've been unthinkable just a couple of years back. For comparison, Tesla's own wall connector is $200 more on Amazon.

The only ho-hum part about the new cheap Tesla chargers by Lectron is that they don't automatically open the door of Tesla's charging ports. That, apparently, is because they are based off the open-source NACS specifications that manufacturers will use from now on.

"The reason why the charger does not open the door is because that feature is not part of the official NACS charging standard, and since Lectron is making products for NACS vehicles for now and in the future, we decided not to include the feature," tips Lectron CEO Christopher Maiwald.
