2.     A system will calculate your home’s electrical load based on national standards. This helps Qmerit determine if there's enough electrical capacity for the charger to be installed.
3.     Take photos of all electrical panels in the house and attach them to the form. This helps Qmerit know your house’s total amperage and if there’s enough room for a charging station.
4.     Your local electrician will secure permits and schedule installation.
5.     If needed, your electrician can coordinate an inspection and meet with the inspector on-site.

With the basic information you provide, Qmerit will be able to determine your installation needs without setting foot on your property.

How much does it cost?

Costs will vary depending on a few factors. If you have an attached garage, you qualify for the standard installation, which means you’ll only have to pay for the installation itself.

In the case of detached garages, townhouses, and condominiums, it's important to note that the costs associated with installing a Level 2 charging station may be higher due to various factors such as additional electrical work, permits, and other specific requirements.

More complex installations may require a panel upgrade, trenching, sub-panel, or installation of a demand charge controller to ensure the safe installation of a high-powered charging outlet where it previously couldn’t. In these cases, Qmerit will reach out to you to discuss your options.

It’s also important for Qmerit to know the amperage or capacity of your home’s electrical panel. Generally, the larger the panel, the better, but they will evaluate on a case-to-case basis. If you have multiple air conditioning units, a pool, and a hot tub, there might not be enough capacity for a 40-amp circuit.

The general rule of thumb is the more complicated the installation is, the more expensive it is. The further the power source is from your desired location, the more wiring it will require. And if your home’s electrical system needs an upgrade, that means additional permits to secure.
